Feb 15, 2010

The start of the third week of February revealed a new installment on the Flynn Lives webpages, through special packages mailed to a people all over the world. The packages contained a Bit, in one of three states - neutral, yes, or no. Inside the lid of the package was written "/zerohour".

On visiting http://flynnlives.com/zerohour, a binary clock countdown is presented, calculated to hit 'zero hour' on February 24th, 11:00am EST.

A new email from FlynnLives.com was sent out ~2am EST, reading:

To all those who passionately believe that Kevin Flynn, digital pioneer and legendary game designer, is still alive... LISTEN UP!

Our last event at Flynn’s Arcade was a call-to-arms for those of us who won't buy into Encom-driven public propaganda about what happened. We're not crazy - there's more to this story than they are letting out.

Today, we have the chance to find out more... to get closer to the truth. WE NEED YOUR HELP!

PREPARE FOR THE NEXT PHASE OF OUR MISSION

We need operatives in 25 different cities around the world on Wednesday, February 24th. Organize now. For more information visit:

The Flynn Lives website is about to launch private Member Profile pages to better organize our group. If you haven't already, click here to set up your username and password.

Flynn Lives is a volunteer-based organization; we respect our members' busy lives. If you would like to stop receiving mail from Flynn Lives [click here]. You can edit your contact information any time by changing the preferences on your Flynn Lives profile page.

When the countdown ended, ZeroHour linked to http://www.flynnlives.com/zerohour.htm: a page with a list of cities, a grid with 66 entries, and a list of the same number of field operatives. Certain cities have yellow "GO NOW" boxes next to them; clicking on them brings up a PDF file explaining where players need to go.

  • 11:00 am EST: Orlando, Paris, Chicago
  • noon EST: Atlanta, Madrid (CANCELLED), Boston
  • 1 pm EST: Austin, London, New York (1 of 2)
  • 2 pm EST: Philadelphia, Raleigh, Washington DC
  • 3 pm EST: Los Angeles (1 of 2), Portland, Nashville
  • 4 pm EST: Minneapolis, San Francisco, Toronto
  • 5 pm EST: Denver, Salt Lake City, San Diego
  • 6 pm EST: New York (2 of 2), Phoenix, Seattle
  • 7 pm EST: Las Vegas, Los Angeles (2 of 2), Sydney

The locations appear to be arcades (or places with arcade machines) where someone with a Flynn Lives T-shirt will be waiting. The goal is to find them and tell them a password, which prompts them to give the player a mobile phone and a number to call on it. The person on the other line will tell the player to look for a hidden package nearby: a wallet containing Flynn's Arcade tokens, newspaper clippings and collectible cards from the original Tron movie. Entering codes on the backs of the cards onto the Zero Hour website causes the card to appear in its proper spot on the grid; clicking on one reveals a piece of a larger picture that will be formed by all 66 cards.

Once the final three locations were revealed, a red Bit beneath the grid changed to yellow, linking to Pitcell.com.
